The rural and remote Bierzo region in the north-west of Spain enjoys a perfect climate for the production of aromatic white wines, with its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean on two sides, and is recognised as the rising star amongst Spanish wine regions. Bodega del Abad has a small vineyard site in the prestigious, high altitude district of Villafranca de Bierzo, and focus on the two heroes of the region – Godello and Mencia. If you haven’t tried either of these delicious varietals before, it’s time to see what the fuss is about.

This Mencia has lots of forest fruit flavours, a good helping of spice and a smoky, earthy, rustic undertone. On the palate its brambly fruit flavours are underpinned by fine grained tannins, subtle oak and good acidity, making it an excellent food wine for a wide variety of full-flavoured dishes.
