Greenock Estate Angas King Barossa Shiraz A3
We’ve been working with the wines from this vineyard before it was sold to Freddy Liu and renamed. Now under the guidance of our mates Jo Irvine (winemaker) and Steve Kurtz (viticulturalist), a new, fresh style of wines have been developed and our customers are loving it! Big, generous, traditional Barossan styles of reds are the feature here with brilliant packaging – styles for the cellar..
This is a full bodied red with notes of rich, ripe plums and hints of rhubarb. Aged in French oak for 18 months it has a firm tannic structure. The deep alluvial soils of the Barossa Valley give this wine its unashamed robustness and power.
The Angas King range pays homage to the founder of the Barossa Valley – George Fife Angas – with a range of four Shiraz wines from four of South Australia’s most renowned regions. each one showcasing its distinct regional character and terroir. Wines are made using strictly traditional techniques of basket pressing and open fermentation.
91 Points – James Halliday’s Wine Companion
The ’16 Barossa Valley harvest was outstanding and noted for an Indian Summer which produced quality fruit with firm tannins. Some archetypal Barossa shiraz was produced and this fits the category well. Dark garnet. Sweet, aromatic spices and a powerful presence in the glass. Bold and direct and deliciously so in the mouth. A reminder that big can also be beautiful.
