Mocandunda Stony Ridge Riesling
The Mocandunda vineyard supplies fruit for many of the region’s most renowned wines, and retains only a small quantity for their own label. The brand is owned by three legends of the industry in South Australia, including viticulturalist Rodger Ackland, who not only founded Mount Horrocks in the 1980s but has planted many (if not most) of the vineyards in Clare.

This is an outstanding expression of aged Riesling. The Mocandunda vineyard is unique in that its fruit does not develop any diesel characteristics as it ages, so it is perfect if you do not like the ‘petrol-ly’ flavour of older Rieslings. In this wine you get the beautiful flavours of lemon blossom, brown lime and mandarin peel leading to softer, subtle notes of lemon myrtle and thyme. The acid line is still fine, if not taut, so it maintains a beautiful mouthfeel and finishes in perfect balance with lingering fruit flavours. It’s utterly delicious and in perfect drinking condition.
