Monte Ory Rosado (Rosé)
The wines of Navarra are seriously underrated in Australia but are a go-to for us when we are looking for everyday drinkers with serious flavour. Monte Ory is the Navarra winery of a very well respected Rioja producer, who owns vineyards on both sides of the mighty Ebro river that divides the two provinces.
This is a delicious crisp, dry Rosé with bags of summer fruit flavours and a beautifully persistent finish. Pale salmon in colour it is soft and aromatic on the nose, while on the palate it is light and refreshing. A great Rosé for all occasions.
Back in the sixties, Rioja winemaker Luis Gurpegui Muga made the decision to purchase a new winery specifically for the production of the wines from his Navarra vineyards. He found what he was looking for in the town of Villafranca, near the banks of the mighty Ebro river, and set to work remodelling the old winery for modern production. The winery itself was named after the 2000m Ori mountain, situated in the far western part of the Pyrenees, on the frontier of the old kingdom of Navarra and the French Basque country.
