Rojomoma RED ART Shiraz

Barossa Valley, Australia

Bernie and Sam have a lovely partnership and their micro-winery produces a few hundred dozen cases only each year of quality varietals from some seriously old vines (some dating back to the 1880’s).  Sam is a sixth generation Barossan, and for many years was the chief red winemaker at Orlando, overseeing the production of many world-famous brands including St Hugo and Wyndham Estate. Both Bernie and Sam are very creative souls and nowhere is this more evident than on their labels, which feature Bernie’s own incredible photography. Next time you find yourself in the Barossa make an appointment and go and take a look – her artwork is displayed all around the winery.

The 2016 vintage Red Art Shiraz is a full bodied wine with fabulous fruit expression. Sam and Bernie select fruit from 3 separate blocks on their small single vineyard, with each plot providing different characters and tannin profiles.  Together they create a wine with great depth of flavours. Picked when the fruit just achieves full ripeness, the tannin is well developed.  Maturation in mostly older French oak allows the single vineyard characters to shine through without strong oak influence.  It is a young wine that is delicious now, but will definitely continue to develop in the bottle for many, many years to come.
