Vibrant Italian Reds Dozen

Italy

We’ve put together a case of our favourite mid-week Italian quaffers – these wines are cracking value for money as well as very versatile food wines. With Sangiovese, Barbera, Nero d’Avola and Aglianico it really offers a cross-section of Italy from Piemonte to Sicily, and at an average of $20 a bottle you really can’t go wrong. We’ve listed them here in order from lightest to heaviest so you know what to drink with what…

Our great-value Italian reds case brings you 3 of each of the following delicious wines:

3x ‘Leda’ Truffle Hunter Barbera d’Asti, Piemonte
This is a delightful medium-bodied wine that is a real crowd-pleaser. With plenty of ripe red fruit flavours and soft tannins, it has a smooth and supple mouthfeel that works equally well with or without food.
3x Artigiano Nero d’Avola, Sicily
This Nero d’Avolat displays an intense ruby colour and perfumed black cherry and wild berry fruit flavours, with a hint of spice. Lifted, yet with depth on the mid palate, it has a smooth tannic structure and a long lingering finish.
3x Poderi dal Nespoli ‘Prugneto’ Sangiovese Superiore, Emilia-Romagna
We love this wine because it has so much generosity and richness compared the Sangiovese from neighbouring Tuscany. It has a bright ruby red color with an intense bouquet of fine red fruits. On the palate, the freshness pairs well with soft tannins, notes of violet, cherry and plums, and a rich, creamy mid-palate. The finish is long and spicy.
3x Cantina Tombacco Aglianico, Campania
The ultimate winter warmer – a deep, dark, full-bodied red with a rich mouthfeel. It has a complex nose of dark red fruit, spice and earthy notes. On the palate the rich fruit is supported by soft vanilla and spice with great persistence, leading to a lovely long finish.
