After Five Wine Co. ‘Serata’ Single Vineyard Blend

Barossa Valley, Australia

Here’s another brilliant story of two mates, Craig Stainsborough & Mark Slade, setting up a label that has gone on to win major accolades over the past decade, including most successful small producer at the 2019 Barossa Wine Show.  Across 4 distinctive labels, there is something for everyone, from traditional varieties, to emerging Mediterranean styles.  By the way, Craig’s day job is winemaker for Grant Burge Wines.

When Craig planted Montepulciano and Aglianico alongside the Shiraz he always had it in mind to create a field blend of the three varietals – and this is it in all its glory. Vibrant in colour, it oozes aromas of Turkish delight, cherry, plums, licorice and herbs, a complex and seriously beguiling nose. Similar fruit flavours appear on the palate and are matched by fine tannin, certainly a sign of a bright future for this wine. The Barossa Shiraz adds plushness and fruit sweetness, the Montepulciano adds bright cherry fruit while Aglianico gives the fine tannin and natural acid backbone to the wine, aiding with the length. This unique blend can be enjoyed now but will reward over many years with careful cellaring.
