Clarendon Hills ‘Domaine Clarendon’ Syrah
Clarendon Hills was founded in 1990 and has been an icon of South Australian wine ever since. Ukrainian born Roman Bratasiuk brought what was at that time a pioneering vision to the Australian wine industry – to champion terroir through the production of single vineyard wines, amongst them Australia’s first ever single vineyard Grenache. While it is for the extraordinary Astralis Syrah that Clarendon HIlls is most renowned, Roman’s relentless work in both vineyard and winery is reflected in each and every wine in the collection.

Full-bodied but oh-so elegant – this wine is at a beautiful stage of its evolution. Its primary black cherry and plum notes have softened and intermingled with the earthy licorice and charcuterie notes so typical of McLaren Vale. The finish is silky and elegant, with an underlying power – it’s poised and classy, a wine that re-defines South Australian Shiraz/Syrah.
94 Points, James Halliday’s Wine Companion
‘Taut style with dark, brooding fruit, lifts of cocoa-powder and whispers of fragrant herbs. The throttle here is well and truly open though maybe it’s been backed off fractionally; for all its depth it remains fresh and fragrant, the finish incredibly finely stitched. Drink by 2032.’
