Clarendon Hills Romas Grenache

McLaren Vale, Australia

Clarendon Hills was founded in 1990 and has been an icon of South Australian wine ever since. Ukrainian born Roman Bratasiuk brought what was at that time a pioneering vision to the Australian wine industry – to champion terroir through the production of single vineyard wines, amongst them Australia’s first ever single vineyard Grenache. While it is for the extraordinary Astralis Syrah that Clarendon HIlls is most renowned, Roman’s relentless work in both vineyard and winery is reflected in each and every wine in the collection.

Romas is the flagship Grenache from this world-renowned winery. Fruit is taken from the oldest and rockiest section of their Blewitt Springs vineyard (planted gradually between 1920s and 1940s) for the ultimate expression of terroir. The heavy presence of ironstone, quartz and shale rocks limit the size and yields of these vines and the resulting wine reflects these mineral elements. On the nose it displays a heady aroma of fresh-cut roses and bright summer fruits, while on the palate the complex minerality along with rich mocha notes come to the fore, driving the wine’s effortless power and silky finish.

In our opinion this wine is at its best with a few years of ageing, so we are delighted to have a handful of bottles of the superb 2014 – it’s just coming into its own and ready to enjoy. Very limited stock available.
