Colmar Estate Vintage Brut Sparkling
Colmar Estate is based in the beautiful NSW town of Orange and at 980m is one of Australia’s highest vineyards. Owner Bill Shrapnel founded the winery after a cycling trip through France many years ago, where he was completely beguiled by the north-east wine regions of Burgundy, Champagne and Alsace. Buying a vineyard at altitude offered him the cooler climate required to produce the classic northern French styles he so admired. Colmar focuses on Riesling, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and they create outstanding sparkling wines in the Champagne style.

This is one of our very favourite Australian sparklings. Made in the traditional Champagne method it spends a whopping 42 months on lees to give it a beautiful rich mouth-feel and plenty of creamy, biscuity flavour. With 80% Pinot Noir it has underlying red fruit notes that seamlessly integrate into the wine, while the cool-climate Chardonnay adds zip and brightness. All in all it’s quite a wine – a showcase of just how serious Australian bubbles can get.
95 Points, James Halliday’s Wine Companion
“Subdued aromas of red cherry underlie billowing notes of biscuit, camomile and cheesecloth, expanding with aeration while really saturating the palate. The finish, long, creamy and seamless. Beautifully integrated on all fronts. Excellent value.”
