Domaine Cornu-Camus Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru ‘Les Charnières’
If your quest to find quality Burgundy at reasonable price points is becoming increasingly challenging, you will want to remember the name Cornu-Camus. Lydia Cornu, together with husband Christophe Pertuzot (formerly of Domaine Leroy) is an absolute gem of the region, quietly turning out superb Burgundies that far exceed their modest price point.
$80.00
This is a Burgundy of true elegance. Hailing from a tiny parcel of 60+ year old vines in one of Savigny-Les-Beaune’s smallest Premier Cru districts, it offers the perfect balance between fruit and minerality. On the nose it initially offers alluring notes of ripe cherry, black raspberry and strawberry before deeper earth and five-spice notes emerge. On the palate there is a stunning tension between its primary fruit and its elegant minerality, hinting of a long life to come, while velvety tannins flesh it out and offer structure. One to drink now with food or hold for a few years and enjoy the complexity as it mellows.
