Greenock Creek ‘Alices’ Shiraz

Barossa Valley, Australia

A staple for years after early high scores from Robert Parker Jnr, Michael & Annabelle Waugh have now sold but the wines are still smashing it on the taste scales.  We’ve been regular customers via cellar door for many years, and it’s a pleasure to be able to range them for our customers.  Full throttle wines leaving no gas in the tank – a treat for those who like to ‘live it large!’

Well you can’t argue with the bang for buck in this wine. This is a big, bold mouthful of solid Barossa Shiraz in the classic style. Luscious dark summer fruits of black cherry and ripe raspberry are abundant on the nose, backed up by rich mocha and spicy notes, not to mention a good lick of toasty coconut oak. Power your way through that wall of flavour to find the finish goes on and on.

95 Points, James Halliday’s Wine Companion
‘Greenock Creek wines always present themselves as intensely concentrated examples of their particular slice of the western Barossa. Initially, there is a quick blast of blackberry pastille in this year’s release, which gives way to opulent blackberry and cherry fruits with hints of baking spices, dark chocolate-dipped raspberries and pressed purple flowers. If you peer deep into the distance, there are some liminal leathery/mahogany notes, too, wrapping the ripe, long tannins in a warm embrace. As always, mighty impressive stuff.’
