Maison Palmer & Co. Champagne Blanc de Noirs

Champagne, France

Maison Palmer was founded shortly after WW2, when seven winegrowers decided to join forces to produce an exceptional blend, and ultimately their own Champagne ‘house’. In 1947, these pioneers, who hailed exclusively from listed Premier and Grand Cru villages, pooled their talent and experience to develop a champagne of perfect harmony, creating an international brand that would incarnate this spirit of excellence. To this day Premier and Grand Cru vineyards comprise over 50% of Palmer’s holdings.

This is a very serious Champagne, and one with a structure that allows it to pair beautifully with food. It is a 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (a significantly higher proportion of Meunier than is usual in a Blanc de Noirs), with the two varieties balancing each-other in perfect harmony. It is characterised by a marked presence of soft apricot and peach notes in addition to the elegant red fruit, and there is an undertone of warm spice on the finish. It is a very powerful wine with great structure and finesse, and it is unsurprising that it has won a great number of trophies at the world’s most significant Champagne competitions.

In the words of Maison Palmer, this prime blend of crus located in the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Bars and the Marne Valley is a contemporary expression of a Blanc de Noirs enriched by a Solera of Pinot Noirs from Mailly and Verzenay. The fruity structure of the Pinots is indeed expressed with surprising freshness.
