Turnbull & Thomas Sauvignon Blanc

Marlborough, New Zealand

Tupari has one of the most awe-inspiring vineyard sites we have ever seen. Located in Marlborough’s Upper Awatere Valley, the vines cling to the cliffs high above the winding river (the name Tupari is actually the Maori word for cliff) – it really is like something from Lord of the Rings. The vineyard site actually used to be planted to apricot trees, and it was only in 2002, when Australian winemaker Glenn Thomas leased a cottage on the estate, that he convinced them their incredible river terraces would be perfect for the production of premium wine.

Glenn himself is something of a legend in the New Zealand wine industry. He was the first winemaker to produce a Sauvignon Blanc from the Awatere Valley and was pivotal in establishing the reputation of the region, and elevating the status of Marlborough.
