Pontecabaleiros ‘Ferrum’ Albariño

Rias Baixas, Spain

The Spanish region of Rias Baixas lies directly above Portugal in the north west corner of the country, and is an area often overlooked by international tourists unless they happen to be doing the famous Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage. It is one of our absolute favourite parts of Spain with its stunning, dramatic beaches (with the cool, fresh waters of the Atlantic), beautiful old towns and the most phenomenal seafood. However, gorging yourself silly on clams, pipis, octopus and sardines all day is not much fun without a suitable wine to wash it all down… and here is where we get to Albariño. We’re going to get this out on record and say that this is truly the ultimate seafood wine – with its fresh acidity and bracing salinity you really can taste the sea. We don’t sell a whole load of different Albariños, because frankly we don’t need to. An overflowing platter of the freshest seafood on ice and a bottle of this absolute beauty from Pontecabaleiros is all you need…

If you are looking for the ultimate seafood wine, you have come to the right place. This is a vibrant, dry, crisp wine, with heady aromatic notes of white peach, apple and zesty citrus, with a touch of jasmine. On the palate it is fresh and elegant, with gentle notes of pie crust and a stony salinity that add further interest to the upfront fruit flavours. Medium bodied and utterly delicious.
