We have been really impressed with the development of the Great Southern region over recent years – it has become a real insider tip for beautiful aromatic whites in particular. The Willoughby Park vineyard is located at the extreme edges of the Porongorup Ranges to the east of Albany and less than 20km from the chilly waters of the Southern Ocean, and has been described by James Halliday as a ‘mighty mouse of a vineyard’. The Rieslings and Chardonnays are exceptional and deliver outstanding value when compared to Margaret River prices – perfect wines for those balmy Queensland evenings!

The Iron Rock Riesling wins awards and trophies year after year, and if you taste it you will have no trouble understanding why. It has a real essence of the sea – you can certainly taste the influence of the Great Southern Ocean in its bracing minerality. The initial flavours are all citrus fruit and green apple, but there is surprising structure and texture brought about by the wine being left on its lees for 3 months before bottling. A beguiling wine – clean and refreshing. and a great example of modern Australian Riesling.
